Girls' varsity tennis comes close to winning State Championship

Columbia, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School girls' varsity team faced Trinity Byrnes in the final of the SCISA 2A State Championship and came close to winning their first title since the fall of 2011.

In dramatic fashion the result of the match came down to the last doubles game which saw Trinity Byrnes prevail and win the match 5-4.

The Griffins finished the season as Region Champions and SCISA 2A State Runners-Up.

1. Caroline Simon & Alex Poliakoff defeated Mckenzie Davis & Lizzie Johnson

2. Marianna Converse & Kelly Killoren defeated Italy Davis & Maggie Marrell

3. Claire Reckley & Schipman Johnston defeated Ashley Henthorn & Anna Gramling

"I'm very proud of the girls! We fought hard and this has been a successful season. As we look forward we will miss our seniors but I can't wait to see what the future holds for the girls returning," stated Coach Bob Allsbrook.
