Seventh grader wins Regional Spelling Bee

Seventh grader Adom Appiah is this year's winner of the Upstate Regional Spelling Bee, a competition that draws the top spellers from schools in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union counties.

Adom was one of more than 80 third- through eighth-grade students competing. He correctly spelled the word "abrasive" for the win and will travel to Washington D.C. this summer to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
