Applying and Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance at Spartanburg Day School

In order to qualify for our financial assistance program, an application to the school must accompany an application to the nationally standardized system for analysis, offered by the Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST).

You can do this by clicking on the FAST logo on this page.

Once the student is accepted to SDS, a committee evaluates the FAST application, and an award is offered. While SDS cannot meet the full need of any student, all awards are grants, which may be applied to offset full tuition costs.

Although the cost of attending Spartanburg Day School is significant, the value, many families believe, is greater. Our goal is to ensure that the many benefits of a Day School education are accessible to capable young men and women from all economic backgrounds. Therefore, families who feel the full tuition cost is out of their reach should not hesitate to visit or apply to the school.

The Spartanburg Day School continues to devote close to $1,000,000 each year to scholarships and financial assistance. Over 35% of our families receive some kind of aid, bringing the best and brightest students to our campus, regardless of their financial circumstance. SDS offers several scholarships to new students applying to the school. Each February, a competition is held attracting academically gifted, new students. Three scholarships opportunities are available to these students at the time of testing.

Submit an Application for Admission
Submitting an application reserves a place for your child at Spartanburg Day School.  A non-refundable application fee of $50 needs to accompany your application.

Class Visit
A class visit is recommended. Parents will work with the Director of Admissions to schedule class visits. These school visits usually last an entire day.

Evaluation Forms and Transcripts
Both evaluation forms and transcripts or narratives need to be sent to Spartanburg Day School in order to determine the correct placement of the applicant.  A Transcript Request Form can be found in the admissions materials.

Testing (if needed)
If further educational information is needed, the appropriate School Head will contact you to arrange a screening time.  The evaluations can take from 1 – 2 hours.  At the 4K – 1st grade levels, we measure readiness, maturity and skill level.  In grades 2 - 12, we measure aptitude and achievement.

Letter of Acceptance
Once all materials are received by the Office of Admissions, an applicant will be considered for admission to the school.  Spartanburg Day School practices a rolling admissions policy until all spaces are filled.

Enrollment Contract
Once a student has been admitted, an enrollment contract must be completed and returned, along with the non-refundable enrollment fee.  This secures your child’s place at Spartanburg Day School.
For families applying for Financial Assistance, a $440 enrollment fee required.  The $440 deposit is refundable if the financial assistance package is declined within 10 days.

Financial Assistance
Once a student has been admitted to Spartanburg Day School, parents interested in financial assistance may submit a financial assistance application. All information submitted to the SDS Financial Assistance Committee is held in strictest confidence.
