The Theatre program at SDS consists of two components. The first is a Theatre Class offered to 9th through 12th graders. This hands-on course is designed to provide an overview of the theatre as an art form: its nature, elements, genres, styles and techniques. Students engage in verbal and non-verbal communication skills, acting techniques, and gain a broad knowledge of the overall process of a theatrical production. The second component of Theatre at SDS is the Drama Team. This group includes both cast and crew and usually numbers close to 30 strong! The Drama Team produces two shows per year, one in January and the other in April. The January production is larger in scope and usually more complex than the April play. The production in April features mostly the Theatre Class members as leads with a few bit parts filled in by other Drama Team members.
