Athletics at Spartanburg Day

“Our athletic program is based upon three principles. The first is participation: an integral part of our athletic program, involving each student. Second is character: through athletic experiences students learn about leadership, responsibility, teamwork along with developing physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. The third is skill development: our program enables students to develop and improve their skills to reach their full potential and compete at the highest level.”

Dan Gilmartin, Athletic Director
  • In keeping with the school’s commitment to enhance the scholar, artist and athlete within each student, Spartanburg Day School employs a “no cut” policy.
  • Spartanburg Day School does not exclude students from participating in any of its athletic programs due to lack of experience and/or ability. Each team will be coached and provide competitive opportunities commensurate with the team’s experience and athleticism.
  • Competitive teams begin at the Middle School and continue through the Upper School. Middle School athletes can be a part of the athletic program in the Upper School if they demonstrate athletic ability and experience.
  • Our athletic program functions as an integral part of the total Spartanburg Day School curriculum. It strives to conform with the general objectives of the school by promoting sound learning and strong character.
