Physical Education/Health

Spartanburg Day School

We believe that healthy bodies are as important as healthy minds. Our students have PE class four times a week. They work on fundamental movements, body awareness, body management, rhythmics, fitness and sport skills. In grades 2nd through 4th, physical fitness is stressed and the Presidential Physical Fitness Program is implemented throughout the year. Students enjoy an action packed PE time where games, sports and activities provide opportunities to improve their skills. Emphasis is placed on lifetime participation in sports and the program enables each student to experience success in a number of physical activities. Our programs also develop leadership, cooperation, self-esteem, creativity and a sense of fair play.

In 2005 the school put into action a new initiative on fitness, nutrition and healthy eating. Parents participate by providing healthy snacks and packing nutritious lunches. A Snack Banquet was held, where children had the opportunity to taste wholesome foods like hummus and pomegranates. Our cafeteria supports this initiative by planning healthier menus. With contributions from the entire school community, a cookbook of nutritious recipes was compiled to further encourage families to embrace healthy eating habits. Bon Appetit!

I like to learn how to play new games in PE.
