Visual Arts
The school’s love for the arts is readily noticeable by the abundance of student art displayed throughout the Lower School.
Children get to paint, draw, sculpt, print and weave and they are constantly encouraged and guided to be as creative as they can. Our Lower School celebrates a wonderful year of art with the end of the year Expressions Art Exhibit; during this popular and vibrant show, every child in the Lower School has a piece of artwork displayed..
One unique and effective program at SDS is the Artists in Residence. Talented professionals share their expertise throughout the year and children are active participants who learn by making colorful puppets, weaving, printing and working with clay.
Every week children study different artists and their styles, which guide them to have greater understanding and appreciation of art. The arts are an integral part of life at the Spartanburg Day School. Our goal is for all students to use art as a means of self-expression.
