8th Grade

As students finish their middle school years, we have three primary foci for the eighth grade year. First, we are continuing the process of preparing students for lifelong learning by deepening their knowledge base, promoting effective habits of mind, and developing essential abilities such as problem-solving and communication through developmentally appropriate challenges. Second, we are seeking to prepare students for the demands of high school by equipping them with the necessary skills and understandings to be successful in that arena. Third, we are working to instill a broader sense of community in students, to empower them to become actors in their community, and to compel them to seek to make a difference whenever they can. In addition to their coursework and other grade level experiences, eighth graders have greater freedom and responsibility within the school. They have opportunities to demonstrate high levels of independence and responsibility relative to their school work, and traditional leadership opportunities are available to them through community and service projects, clubs, and Middle School Government..
