Spartanburg Day School students participated in the Barnes and Noble “My Favorite Teacher" contest by writing an essay, poem, or thank-you letter. The writing explained how the chosen teacher influenced their life and why they appreciate them.

Lauren Jobe, a third grader, wrote about Mary Steele in her essay “As Strong as Steele” and Lauren Thomas, an eleventh grader, stressed the story telling ability of Mr. Robinette, which makes his lessons on Ancient History more relevant.

Both teachers and students were recognized Wednesday. They received a set of classic books for their classrooms.

Steele and Robinette are also eligible for regional and national awards. The regional award winner will receive $500 or a Nook color, and the national winner and the school where they teach will receive $5000 each. The winners will be announced in May.
