Biography

Professional Experience
I began teaching Spanish as a second language in college as a student teaching assistant at the University of South Alabama and taking groups of students to study abroad at the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Veracruz, México. Since then, I’ve enjoyed teaching Spanish and English as a second language to children, from preschoolers to adolescents, in the U.S., México, and Spain. I also have several years of experience working with children and families as a Bilingual Child and Family Advocate at the 7th Circuit Court Solicitor’s Office and Children's Advocacy Center of Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union Counties.

Education
- BA: Foreign Language & Literatures (Concentration in Spanish); International Studies (Concentration in Latin American Studies), University of South Alabama, Universidad Veracruzana (México)
- MA: Advanced Studies of the Spanish Language, Universidad de Granada (Spain)
- MSW: Bilingual Master of Social Work, Loyola University Chicago

Why I do what I do...
Children are naturally curious about the world around them and love to learn. It's our job as teachers to provide the safe spaces that keep that going.

I’m the mother of three beautiful children, Amaru, Azucena, and Lucero, my greatest teachers. When I’m not teaching Spanish, I love to be in the garden with my hands in the earth or traveling the planet with my children and husband, Álvaro, eating good food. A certified yoga teacher and mindfulness instructor, I also enjoy incorporating mindful movement into our classroom activities.
