Head of Middle School

Education:
Davidson College, B.S. Psychology
Vanderbilt University, M.Ed.

Professional Experience:
I began my teaching career as a fifth grade teacher in New Orleans, Louisiana with a program called Teach For America. I was twenty two years old and had no idea what I would do with my life. Thirty years later, I am still going to school with middle school students each day and loving it.

Why I do what I do...
Middle School and middle aged students are so often misunderstood. My experience has been that they are actually wildly funny, compassionate, competent and clever beings. I embrace this time for them and define these years as unique and important. My goal is for them to remember middle school when they are much older... for good reasons!

I move the furniture around in our house all the time. I frequently change the rooms from one purpose to another on a whim. It is my most effective form of procrastination.

A day rarely ends for me without a long walk on the Cottonwood Trail with my husband and our lively pup, and we adore visiting and spending time with our two adult children who have benefitted in more ways than I can count from their Day School education.
