Spartanburg Day School is honored to announce that Athletic Director Mike Cerino has been selected for induction into the Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) Hall of Fame. Cerino is part of the Class of 2024, which includes a distinguished group of coaches from across the nation. The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Dec.13, in Orlando, Fla., as part of the IMLCA Coaches Summit.
A highly decorated coach, Cerino guided two elite programs, Limestone University and Washington and Lee University, to unprecedented heights. During his 21-year coaching career, he compiled an impressive overall record of 181-90 (.668), culminating in a NCAA Division II National Championship with Limestone in 2000 and a NCAA Division III Semifinal appearance with Washington and Lee in 2002. His teams captured eight conference championships. Beyond his collegiate success, Cerino is a member of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame - South Carolina Chapter, and is a Pfeiffer University Hall of Fame player. Cerino also led the Major League Lacrosse Charlotte Hounds to the 2013 Championship Game.
Since joining Spartanburg Day School in 2023, Cerino has made a significant impact on the Griffin Athletics program, including the reinstatement of the lacrosse program this year, and this prestigious honor is a testament to an exceptional career.
Cerino’s passion for the sport and his proven track record of success make him an invaluable asset to the SDS community.
“I am deeply honored to be inducted into the IMLCA Hall of Fame,” said Mike Cerino. “This recognition is a reflection of the incredible student-athletes and coaches I’ve had the privilege to work with throughout my career. I am excited to continue building upon our success at Spartanburg Day School.”
“This is an incredible honor for Coach Cerino to be voted into the IMCLA by his peers in the college lacrosse world,” said Dave Skeen, Head of School at Spartanburg Day School. “Coach Cerino represents the best of our teacher coach model – a true mentor of student athletes and coaches alike. We are proud that he represents Spartanburg Day School as our Athletic Director and Lacrosse Program Head and continues to coach at a Hall of Fame level. This is well deserved recognition.”
Cerino’s induction into the IMLCA Hall of Fame is a remarkable accomplishment that reflects his dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to lacrosse and its players.
