Fine Arts Showcase Coming To Spartanburg Day School On February 6

Talented students in the visual and performing arts will take center stage on Friday, Feb. 6, as Spartanburg Day School opens its campus from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for its Fine Arts Showcase and Scholarship Day, an immersive event that gives prospective students and families a firsthand look at fine arts programs and scholarship opportunities.

The program is designed for students interested in visual arts, theatre and band. Participants will attend auditions, visit classes, and meet with faculty and current students to gain a closer look at the school’s fine arts community and academic program.

The event hosted inside the Mildred Harrison Dent Fine Arts Center Gallery will include auditions and portfolio presentations for talent-based scholarship opportunities in the fine arts.

A featured guest will be Spartanburg Day School alumna Harrison Blackford, a South Carolina visual artist whose work highlights the architecture, landscapes, and natural beauty of the state. Blackford grew up in Spartanburg and developed an early interest in art and interior design. She later studied art history and studio art at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

Her paintings are known for their color and warmth and have been featured by magazines, interior designers, galleries and retail spaces across the country and throughout the Southeast. Blackford lives in Charleston, where she continues to paint scenes inspired by South Carolina’s scenery and culture.

School officials say the upcoming showcase reflects Spartanburg Day School’s focus on developing student talent and providing opportunities for artistic growth within a strong academic setting.
