The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced today that five Spartanburg Day School seniors were among 16,000 semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Irena Enuica, Houston Johnson, Cam Srivastava, Camrynn Wilson and Caleb Xiao and other semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. They will now continue on in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million to be offered next spring.
Students were entered into the scholarship competition by taking the PSAT as high school juniors in 2021. Semifinalists must have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay and earn a qualifying SAT or ACT score. Finalists will be announced in February.
