Brooke Peeler Appointed Director of Academic Support

Spartanburg Day School is pleased to announce that Brooke Peeler will serve as the incoming director of academic support/VISTAS. She will begin in her new role on July 1.

Peeler's career in education consists of 21 years of pedagogy, training, direct instruction, and program implementation and development in the field of special education. She comes to SDS from the Cherokee County School District where she has served for the last 18 years as an autism specialist and board-certified behavior analyst, working with students ages three to 21 years.  

“We are excited to announce the appointment of Brooke Peeler to the position of Director of Academic Support,” said Head of School Rachel Deems. “Her passion for connecting with students as well as her 20-plus years of experience in differentiating instruction to meet student needs,helping them to be successful and confident learners will further the Day School’s ability to provide valuable services and support to students and faculty.”

Incoming Head of School Dave Skeen, who will begin in his new leadership role at SDS July 1, added, "I am thrilled that Brooke Peeler will bring her expertise to our learning community next school year. In my conversations with Brooke, I found her to be engaging, empathetic, understanding, exceptionally knowledgeable and unfailingly approachable. I think these characteristics will mean that our students and faculty will benefit greatly from her leadership at the Day School, and I look forward to working with her.”

Prior to her current role, Peeler worked as a self-contained special education teacher at Corinth Elementary and Ewing Middle in Gaffney. She earned a master’s in school administration from Gardner Webb University and has a bachelor’s in experimental psychology from the University of South Carolina Upstate. Additionally, she completed coursework with the Florida Institute of Technology and earned board certification in the area of behavior analysis. She and her husband Gib are parents to two current SDS students: Sadie (10th grade) and Charlotte (8th grade).

Peeler said, "I am honored to be joining Spartanburg Day School as director of academic support. As a parent, I have been blessed to be a part of the Day School family for the past 10 years. I have seen firsthand the sense of community and shared values among everyone involved with student success. I am thrilled to be a part of the outstanding community of learners, educators, and administrators at Spartanburg Day School, and I am excited to work closely with parents and students to support academic progress and to build strong partnerships that benefit student learning and the entire school community."
