Spartanburg Day School Seniors Named Commended Students In National Merit Scholarship Program

Three Spartanburg Day School seniors have placed among the top academic performers in the nation, earning recognition in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Seniors Camden Doolittle, Maddie Parker, and Adelyn Stroud have been named Commended Students based on their exceptional scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) taken last fall.

“We are incredibly proud of Camden, Maddie, and Adelyn for earning this prestigious honor,” said Head of School Dave Skeen. “This recognition is a testament not only to their exceptional academic dedication and hard work, but also to their curiosity and commitment to excellence. They truly embody what it means to live out our school’s mission each day.”

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2027 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2027 competition by taking the 2025 PSAT/NMSQT as juniors.

“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” a spokesperson for NMSC said. “These students represent a valuable national resource. Recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
