Joined by family, teachers and friends, Spartanburg Day School senior Kaif Surka signed a letter of intent Thursday to play soccer at Converse University.
An integral member of the Griffins’ varsity boys’ soccer team since the eighth grade, Kaif ranks high in all-time assists and in the top five of appearances. As team captain, he will lead the team to the SCISA state semi-final game later today. Kaif also represented the Griffins as a member of the varsity basketball team.
Coach Nick Buxton commented that it has been a pleasure to watch Kaif grow as a leader.
“I’m incredibly proud of Kaif’s hard work and dedication over his years as a Griffin,” Buxton said. “Kaif has made great strides on the soccer field, and I attribute much of the team’s success to his leadership, support and talent.”
“I’ve loved every single minute being a part of such a great team and program,” Kaif said. “For the seven years I’ve been here I’ve seen improvement in my game every year due to the quality of the program. It’s sad to see my career at the Day School coming to an end, but I am looking forward to progressing even further on the field at Converse. Thank you so much to all the coaching staff, teammates and the Day School for helping me achieve my goal.”
Athletic Director Joy Couch said, “watching Kaif’s growth over the past few years really points to the success of this team. We appreciate you and are so happy your dreams are coming true.”
