Spartanburg Day School is proud to announce the hiring of Todd White as the new Program Head for Golf. White, a distinguished golfer and educator, will begin his tenure at the school on July 1, 2025.
White's appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Spartanburg Day School's golf program. A graduate of Furman University, White earned All-American honors and was inducted into the Furman Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003. His impressive career in amateur golf includes competing in the 1995 United States Open, playing in 37 USGA Championships, and representing Team USA on the victorious 2013 Walker Cup team. White has also claimed victory in the United States Senior Amateur and British Senior Amateur championships.
In addition to his accomplishments on the course, White has a strong background in teaching and most recently taught history in Spartanburg County’s District 7, where he covered a wide range of topics from the birth of the Constitution to the complexities of current American politics. His dedication to both his students and his craft has made him a respected educator.
“When Chris Crowley came to me with a vision for our golf program and helped identify Todd as the leader to fulfill that vision, I was thrilled,” said Head of School Dave Skeen. “First and foremost, we are excited to have a teacher-coach of Todd’s caliber to help prepare our students for lives well lived. I know he will lead our golf programs with integrity and develop a level of excellence that instills in our student-athletes a sense of purpose and commitment that will be unrivaled. Golf is a lifelong sport with so many lessons to offer our young players, and I am excited to see Coach White build the program.”
"We are thrilled to welcome Todd White to the Griffin golf family,” said Mike Cerino, Athletic Director at Spartanburg Day School. “Coach White brings extensive coaching experience and a history of success to the Spartanburg Day School community. More importantly, he embodies the qualities we value—mentorship, character, and a commitment to teaching. We sought a coach who could inspire and develop our student-athletes both on and off the course, and I am convinced that Coach White is the right person to lead our golf program into the future."
The Spartanburg Day School golf program has a rich history of success, and with White at the helm, the team is poised for even greater achievements. As the upcoming season approaches, White is eager to continue building on this tradition of excellence, focusing on the development of student-athletes both as golfers and as individuals.
“I would like to thank Spartanburg Day Head of School, Mr. Dave Skeen, and the supporters of Spartanburg Day School Golf for providing the opportunity to direct the golf program. We look forward to building a premier high school golf program with high-caliber young men and young women who embrace the concept of the student-athlete at Spartanburg Day and who will excel in the classroom, on the golf course, and in our community.”
White’s arrival is an important step forward for the school’s golf program, as well as a great opportunity for the students he will mentor both in and out of the classroom. The SDS community eagerly anticipates the positive impact he will have in shaping the future of Spartanburg Day School golf.
