Spartanburg Day School announces plans for Varsity Football in 2026

Friday Night Lights are coming to the Spartanburg Day School campus in 2026.

Spartanburg Day School announced in May, 2024 intentions to bring football back to campus after a forty one year hiatus with the hiring of Patrick Moffitt as the Football Program Head.

The inaugural middle school season was a resounding success, both on and off the field, paving the way for a slate of junior varsity games next fall (2025) and a South Carolina Independent School Athletics varsity slate in the fall of 2026.

Program Head, Patrick Moffitt stated, “It was exciting to watch the growth and development of every one of the football players in the program this past fall. Their hunger to learn and compete is what made this past season a success. I can’t wait to continue to build with them every step of the way as we continue to grow.”

School spirit and community support was noticeably influenced by the excitement generated by the players, cheerleaders, and coaches this season.

Dave Skeen, SDS Head of School said, “We are very excited that the path to Varsity football we set out to develop is coming to fruition. We have a great teacher-coach in Patrick Moffit and are excited to be offering this type of educational experience in a school that demands a lot of its student-athletes through our rigorous academic program.”
