Spartanburg Day School Announces Partnership With Global Online Academy

Spartanburg Day School has announced a new partnership with Global Online Academy, an internationally recognized consortium of leading independent schools, that will expand academic opportunities for Upper School students beginning in the fall of 2026.

Through this partnership, eligible Spartanburg Day School students will gain access to an extensive catalog of rigorous, student-centered online courses designed to complement the on-campus academic program.

The Global Online Academy partnership supports Spartanburg Day School’s mission to provide a superior educational experience while preparing students for an increasingly competitive college admissions landscape. The program allows students to pursue specialized academic interests, develop essential 21st century skills, and collaborate with peers and faculty from top independent schools around the world.

“This partnership represents an exciting step forward for our Upper School program,” said Julia Snowfrock, Director of Teaching and Learning at Spartanburg Day School. “This opens doors for our students to explore advanced and highly specialized subjects while continuing to benefit from the strong relationships and academic foundation they build on campus every day.”

Global Online Academy offers more than 70 courses across a wide range of disciplines, including STEM, humanities, arts, world languages, and health and wellness. Sample offerings include Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Bioethics, International Relations, Architecture, Medical Problem Solving, Introduction to Legal Thinking, Linear Algebra, and Multivariable Calculus. Students may intentionally sequence these electives to create academic pathways that reflect their interests and strengthen their college applications.

“Our goal is to empower students to take greater ownership of their learning in ways that mirror the expectations of college and beyond,” noted Jenny Glenn, Head of the Upper School. “The Global Online Academy program encourages curiosity, independence, and collaboration, while helping students craft a meaningful academic narrative that highlights both passion and purpose.”

Courses through Global Online Academy will supplement, not replace, the core Spartanburg Day School academic program. Students may apply for enrollment after completing ninth grade and may take up to one Global Online Academy course per semester.

“The addition of Global Online Academy is an investment in the relevance, rigor, and flexibility of our academic program,” said Dave Skeen, SDS Head of School. “It ensures our students are challenged, inspired, and well prepared for the demands of college and a rapidly changing world.”
