SDS Track & Field Shines At Region Meet With Record-Breaking Performances

Spartanburg Day School’s track and field teams delivered an impressive showing Monday, April 27, at the SCISA Region II-3A meet during Senior Night at McCracken Middle School, highlighted by record-setting performances, multiple first-place finishes, and several state qualifications.

The region meet was headlined by a historic performance from McKee Kent in the 800-meter run as she turned in a blazing time of 2:14.67. Kent also played a key role in the girls 4x400-meter relay team that captured first place alongside Lilla Langley, Rachel Brusch, and Maria Tenerello. Kent is the current Spartanburg County 800-meter record holder, setting that mark earlier this month at the county meet.

The girls 4x100-meter relay team delivered one of the day’s most notable performances on Monday, finishing second with a strong showing from Langley, Tenerello, Emma Tolbert, and Hannah Vincent. The group’s speed and execution positioned them as a key contender heading into the state meet.

Individually, Vincent led the sprint events with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash and a runner-up finish in the 200 meters. Langley added a third-place finish in the 200 meters to qualify for the state meet and placed fifth in the 100 meters. Brusch secured a third-place finish in the 800 meters to advance to state, while Sarah Halstead placed fifth in the same event.

In the field events, Essence Olley recorded a third-place finish in the girls shot put.

On the boy’s side, the Griffins recorded several standout performances. Camden Teel captured first place in the 400-meters, while Brice Henderson won the shot put and set a new school record in the discus with a fourth-place finish.

Christian Steiniger also set a new school record in the 110-meter hurdles with a third-place finish and added another third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Nicholas Catto placed second in the 800 meters to qualify for the state meet.

Noah Brusch earned second-place finishes in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters, while J.R. Parrish placed fifth in both events and added a third-place finish in the javelin. Gibbes Montgomery contributed with a second-place finish in the shot put and a fifth-place finish in the discus.

Spartanburg Day’s relay teams also had a big day, with the boys 4x100 team of Parrish, Skylar Teel, Steiniger, and Brusch capturing first place. The boys 4x400-meter relay team of Brusch, Steiniger, Skylar Teel, and Camden Teel also earned a first-place finish.
