Testimonial Tuesday: Meet Matthew Roff

We are excited to share our next edition of Testimonial Tuesday, a weekly feature that highlights the voices of our students and the heart behind the Griffin experience.

We are pleased to introduce Matthew Roff, a senior Upper School student.

“In my final year at Spartanburg Day School, I’ve realized just how much it has shaped me. It’s a place where people really care. Our teachers challenge us in the best ways academically and guide us personally, helping me grow with confidence as I navigate the college application process.

"What makes SDS stand out to me is the sense of balance it gives us. Since every student is required to participate in a sport, it isn’t just about staying active but about learning how to work with others and face obstacles in a steady way. The week of Special Studies takes us outside the classroom and lets us see the world more authentically, whether we’re traveling, exploring something new, or spending time in the community. It makes learning feel real and helps us build genuine friendships.

"The mix of commitment, support, and beloved traditions, from the Halloween Parade to Tree Trimming, has given me a real sense of belonging and joy. As seniors, we guide the kindergartners through these events, sharing their excitement and passing on a legacy of community and fun. Now, as I approach graduation, I feel prepared and ready to use what I’ve learned to make a positive difference wherever I go.”

We are incredibly proud of Matthew and the entire senior class as they prepare to carry their Griffin pride into the world.
