The year's second exhibit in the Mildred Harrison Dent Fine Arts Gallery displays the works of an accomplished artist who is no stranger to Spartanburg Day School. "Playing Possum" by Becca Barnet '05 reflects her fascination with natural history and preservation.
Barnet is also a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and attended the Missouri Taxidermy Institute. Her love of replicating textures and preserving animals led to her work on traveling exhibits for the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, including being a member of the team that created the sixty-foot Mamenchisaurus. She also created displays for the College of Charleston and the South Carolina Aquarium. Her creativity is on display in store windows, restaurant interiors, gallery exhibitions and more. She currently lives in Charleston.
An opening reception for "Playing Possum" will be held Thursday, Nov. 2, from 3-5 p.m. Dr. Brennan Szafron will be playing the piano. The exhibit will be on display through Dec. 1.
