Boys' varsity basketball win SCISA 2A State Championship

Sumter, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity basketball team won the SCISA 2A State Championship in spectacular fashion as they beat Trinity Byrnes Collegiate 74-41.

This was the Griffins third straight championship and marking an end to the careers of the five seniors. Zion Williamson, Kyle Tracy, Chandler Lindsey, Matt Brown and Tim Lian put Spartanburg Day School basketball on top of the SCISA 2A world and changed the mentality of the program throughout their illustrious careers.

In the final Trinity Byrnes held their own in the first half as the Griffins were kept at bay as Trinity Byrnes frustrated SDS. That all changed in the third quarter as the Griffins offense was in full flow. Crowd pleasing dunks by Zion Williamson, Chandler Lindsey and Matt Brown and the tenacious play from Kyle Tracy who scored his 1000th career point during the game, pulled Spartanburg Day ahead and they looked back.

Zion Williamson led all scorers with 37 points. Kyle Tracy 13 and Matt Brown 12 were the other two Griffins in double figures. Also scoring for the team were Chandler Lindsey with six, Clay Killoren added two, Frank Van Geison scored two and Jeet Patel rounded out the scoring with two points.

Williamson, Tracy, Lindsey and Brown were all named to the All-Tournament team.

The Griffins end the year with a record of 21-8 and as the SCISA 2A State Champions and the SCISA 1-AA Region Champion.
