Charles Blue named next varsity boys basketball coach

Experienced coach and former player Charles Blue has been announced as the next head coach of Spartanburg Day School's varsity boys' basketball team.

Coach Blue will transition to lead the varsity team after coaching both the middle school and junior varsity programs at SDS.

"I am honored to be the new head coach for the varsity boys' basketball program," Blue said. "Spartanburg Day School has a great tradition of success through education and athletics. I look forward to building our basketball program behind that tradition to illustrate the true model of student athletes."

Prior to joining the Griffins' coaching staff two years ago, Blue served as the assistant varsity men's basketball coach and assistant director of intramurals at Limestone College. He played four years at the collegiate level at Limestone, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science/liberal studies.

Blue also currently serves as the skills trainer and on-site director for Hornets Hoops, a program under the Charlotte Hornets organization that offers skill development training, camps and specialty clinics for young players.

"We are very fortunate to already have Coach Blue on our coaching staff," said SDS Athletic Director Rita Harrell. "After successfully leading both the middle school and JV teams, Charles' experience and leadership qualities make him a natural fit to take over the varsity program. He is well-liked and respected by players, parents and our athletics staff. We look forward to Coach Blue leading our basketball program to continued success in the future."
