Q&A with Anna Benson

Q: What are some of your most cherished memories from your time at Spartanburg Day School?

A:One of my most cherished memories from Spartanburg Day School would be decorating the hall for homecoming in my tenth-grade year. I remember the music blasting and my friends (Marnie and Lia) and I were just having the time of our lives singing and dancing. Another cherished memory of mine would be the special studies trips I have gone on throughout my time here at the Day School. It was a time of laughter and fun as I tried new experiences and got out of my comfort zone.

Q:How has SDS helped you grow academically and personally?

A:Since I came to the day school after receiving a public education all the way up to middle school, the small classes at Spartanburg Day School have allowed me to develop a closer relationship with my teachers, allowing me to feel comfortable asking questions and coming after class to better understand what I am learning. This has allowed me the opportunity to figure out what I previously did not understand while also creating a bond with the teachers that I carried with me throughout my high school years.

Q:What are your plans for after graduation?

A:I am attending the College of Charleston as an undecided major. However, I plan on joining clubs and learning about possible subjects that I would like to major in.

Q:How did your experiences at SDS prepare you for your next chapter?

A:My experiences at Spartanburg Day School have allowed me to get a feel of what the college workload and expectations are for my next chapter at the College of Charleston. Additionally, the experience has allowed me to get comfortable with learning how to branch out and try new things which is something I will have to do as a freshman in college.

Q:What advice would you give to incoming freshmen at Spartanburg Day School?

A:To the incoming freshmen, give it your all from the start of your freshman year to the end of your senior year, just do not forget to have fun in the process.

Q:What will you miss most about Spartanburg Day School?

A:As I have gained a lot of valuable experiences and relationships throughout my time here at Spartanburg Day School, the aspect that I will miss the most is my constant interaction with my advisor, Mrs. McGrath. She has always believed in me and has pushed me to do my best even if it is something that is challenging to me.

Q:What are some of the unique aspects of the Spartanburg Day School experience that you'll take with you?

A:Here at the Day School, there are obvious expectations and standards that students are expected to adhere to. These expectations have allowed me to give my all for my classes and feel accomplished when I turn in my assignments. I want to take some of these expectations and standards regarding my academic work with me to college so that I can feel pride in what I turn in and how I present myself.

Q:What are some "hidden gems" of Spartanburg Day School that you think future students know about?

A:Some hidden gems that future Spartanburg Day School students should know about are the school-wide activities that happen throughout the year. One of my personal favorites is when all of the upper school students come together to decorate the halls for homecoming and dress in the different themes for the different grade levels. It is truly amazing to watch the lower school students walk through the halls and see all the hard work and dedication that the upper school students put into decorating.
