Q&A with Jake Gramling
Q: What are some of your most cherished memories from your time at Spartanburg Day School?
A:After being at Spartanburg Day School for 12 years, this is an insanely hard question. I’ve loved my time here and have made so many memories I will cherish forever. Some of these include field days in the lower school, basketball games with Zion, being a member of the tennis team, unforgettable special studies trips, and the everyday moments spent with friends.
Q: How has SDS helped you grow academically and personally?
A:SDS has played an essential role in my growth as both a student and an individual. Academically, the dynamic learning environment promoted critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation. Through the engaging teachers at SDS, I was able to understand complex concepts and develop my curiosity. Moreover, personally, SDS offered me numerous opportunities for growth through the clubs offered. Interact taught me the value of hard work to benefit our community, and Student Government helped to cultivate my leadership skills.
Q: What are your plans for after graduation?
A:I plan to attend Wake Forest University to major in Business and potentially minor in Film & Media Studies.
Q: How did your experiences at SDS prepare you for your next chapter?
A:My experiences at SDS have been incredibly transformative, shaping me into who I am today and preparing me for the next exciting chapter of my journey. SDS provided me with not only academic knowledge but also invaluable life skills that have equipped me to face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. These experiences have not only enhanced my résumé but also enriched my life in countless ways.
Q: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen at Spartanburg Day School?
A:As incoming freshmen, you're about to embark on an exciting journey full of new experiences, challenges, and opportunities. I would advise you all to get involved in the clubs and activities that our school offers (and if they don’t offer it, start it). Furthermore, I would suggest always seeking help when it's needed. The teachers at SDS are very supportive and understanding, so there is no need to hesitate in talking to them.
Q: What will you miss most about Spartanburg Day School?
A:I will miss the small community environment at SDS. It’s truly rare to be in a place where you know everyone’s names and can connect with teachers on a personal level.
Q: What are some "hidden gems" of Spartanburg Day School that you think future students should know about?
A: I think the study halls are honestly a “hidden gem” at SDS. It’s no secret that our school provides a heavy workload; however, if you take advantage of your study halls and use your time wisely, you can minimize your school work and give yourself more time for personal activities.
