Gregg Nibert, head coach

Gregg Nibert joined the Spartanburg Day School in 2020 as Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. He brought home the SCISA State Championship 2A in 2022 and was also named the SCISA 2A South Carolina Coach of the Year.

Before joining the SDS community, Gregg had been Head Basketball Coach at Presbyterian College for 28 years, Assistant Basketball Coach at Furman and Rice Universities, along with PE Teacher and Assistant Football & Basketball Coach, an Area Representative for Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Spartanburg Christian Academy.

During his coaching career, Gregg has received the National Association of Coaches “Guardians of the Game” Service Award, Final Four; Fellowship of Christian Athletes John Lotz Barnabas Award, Final Four; EdVenture Children’s museum “Great Friend to Kids” Award; and the Duke Energy Citizen & Service Award. He was also inducted into the “Hall of Fame” at Grove City High School in Grove City, Ohio in 2019.

Gregg is the Founder of Camp of Champions. He has served as a Laurens County Foster Parent for more than 20 years, served on the board of the Laurens County Cancer Association, a NABC Member for 28 years; Division II Congressman, and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Clinton since 1991.

Gregg received his Master of Education Administration from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health from Marietta College. He’s married to Peggy Nibert and they share sons Shaun (31) and Van (28).
