SCISA State Tournament, Trinity Byrnes Collegiate
Loss 50-42

Sumter, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls lost the semi finals of the SCISA 2A State Championship as they were defeated 50-42 by Trinity Byrnes Collegiate.

In the game Lauren Oakes and Brittany Mack led the Griffins with 12 points each. Lauren Lee added 8, Ariana Muehlenbein scored 7 and Mariana Converse rounded out the scoring with three points.

The Griffins season comes to a close with a 16-8 record and were also the SCISA Region 1-AA Champions.

SCISA State Tournament, Thomas Sumter Academy
Win 42-34 OT
Sumter, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' defeated the Lady Generals of Thomas Sumter Academy by a score of 42-34 in the second round of the SCISA 2A State Championship.

The Griffins found themselves in a tough defensive battle with the Lady Generals during the first half, as neither team was able to find the basket. The Lady Generals hit a big three going into the half to take a 6 to 9 half time lead.

The Griffins increased their intensity during the third quarter and were able to translate their defense to offensive baskets. The Griffins were able to take the lead going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Generals, however, found back in the fourth and were able to send the game into OT with a last second shot. The Griffins took control of the OT period and outscored the Lady Generals, 11 to 3. The final score was 42 to 34.

The Griffin scorers were lead by Junior Brittany Mack who had 13 points. Senior Kathleen Babb and Junior Lauren Lee both notched 8 points a piece. Senior Lauren Oakes scored 6 points. Fellow Senior Julia Cooper added 3 points. Junior Ariana Muehlenbein and Freshman Mariana Converse both added 2 points to round out the Griffin scorers.

The Griffins return to action on Thursday during the semi- finals of the SCISA 2A State Tournament. Tip off is 5pm at the Sumter Civic Center.

SCISA State Tournament, Colleton Prep
Win 67-37
The SDS VG defeated the Lady Hawks of Colleton Prep Academy by a score of 67 to 37 in the first round of the SCISA 2A State Championship.

The Griffins came out roaring during the first quarter outscoring the Hawks 15 to 6. They continued the momentum and took a 38 to 12 lead into the half.

The Griffins were able to cruise onto the 67 to 37 win. All Griffins saw action in Friday night's contest.

The Griffin scorers were lead by Senior Lauren Oakes and Junior Lauren Lee who both notched 14 points. Junior Brittany Mack scored 13 points. Fellow Junior Ariana Muehlenbein scored 8 points. Senior Julia Cooper and Freshman Mariana Converse both had 6 points. Senior Kathleen Babb added 4 points. Sophomore Susannah Lyon and Freshman Ash-Kat Harley both had 2 points to round out the Griffin scorers.

The Griffins return to action on Monday during the second round of the SCISA 2A State Tournament. Tip off is 6:30pm at the Sumter Civic Center.

SCISA Region Tournament, Spartanburg Christian Academy
Win 54-43

Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity basketball teams claimed region titles as both the girls' and boys' teams won their championship games on Tuesday night.

In the first game of the night the girls' varsity team rallied from a 15 point halftime deficit to win the game 54-43 over Spartanburg Christian Academy.

At the beginning of the game the Griffins were in the groove as they led the Warriors 7-2 but after a timeout from SCA's coach Monica Fain, Spartanburg Day struggled offensively which led to a Warriors halftime lead.

The second half was a different story as senior Kathleen Babb led the Griffins comeback as she forced turnovers which led to points for her team.

"Our team wasn't playing up to our potential when running our plays, so I knew something was going to have to happen. I did what I needed to do," said Kathleen Babb.

The Griffins regained the lead in the fourth quarter and never looked back as they won their second straight SCISA Region 1-AA championship.

Babb led the Griffins with 16 points, Lauren Oakes scored 12, junior Brittany Mack added 10 and Lauren Lee 9, Ariana Muehlenbein 5, Mariana Converse 2 rounded out the scoring for the team.

Kathleen Babb, Lauren Oakes, Brittany Mack, Lauren Lee and Ariana Muehlenbein were all named to the All-Region team.

The girls' varsity team will be back in action on Friday, February 16 as they travel to Heathwood Hall to take on Colleton Prep in the first round of the SCISA 2A State Championships. The tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

SCISA Region Tournament, Oakbrook Preparatory School
Win 43-23
Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' basketball team advanced to the championship game in the Region 1-AA tournament as they defeated Oakbrook Prep 43-23.

The first half was a cagey affair as both teams battled to get familiar with the surroundings but it was the Griffins who held a 19-16 lead at the half.

In the second half Spartanburg Day had the momentum and started to find their grove as they outscored the Knights and won by twenty points.

Junior Lauren Lee led the Griffins with 17 points. Senior captain Lauren Oakes scored 16 points. While Brittany Mack 5, Ariana Muehlenbein 3 and Kathleen Babb 2 rounded out the scoring for the team.

Spartanburg Day will play for the Championship tonight as they will battle it out with Spartanburg Christian Academy. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

ESPN Game, Greensboro Day School
Win 58-53

Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' basketball defeated Greensboro Day School 58-53.

The Griffins took the lead early and raced out to a 21-5 first quarter lead. The Bengals fought hard and came back into it in the second half but Spartanburg Day School held on to claim the victory.

Brittany Mack led all scorers with 20 points. Lauren Lee added 17 points, while Senior Lauren Oakes playing in her last home game scored 15 points. Rounding out the scoring for the team was Kathleen Babb and Ariana Muehlenbein who both had 3 points.

The Griffins will now turn their attention to the SCISA Regional Tournament which this year will be played at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Arena at Wofford College. The teams first game on Monday will Tip off at 7.00 p.m.

Oakbrook Preparatory School
Win 52-23
Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' basketball team defeated by the Lady Knights from Oakbrook Prep Tuesday night by a score of 52-23.

The Griffins came out the game roaring, using defensive intensity to out score the Lady Knights 17-4 during the first quarter. The Griffins kept rolling during the second period, taking a 31-9 lead into the half.

The Griffins extended the lead during the second half with timely buckets and defensive stops. The final score was 52-23. All Griffins saw action in Tuesday's night contest.

The Griffin scorers were led by Junior Brittany Mack with 15 points. Junior Ariana Muehlenbein added 13 points. Senior Lauren Oakes and Freshman Mariana Converse both added 8 points. Junior Lauren Lee scored 5 points and Senior Kathleen Babb had 3 points to round out the Griffin scorers.

The Griffins return to action on Thursday night again Greensboro Day. Tip off is at 7:30.

Rabun Gap
Loss 44-40
Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' basketball team were defeated by the Lady Eagles of Rabun Gap on Monday night by a score of 44-40.

The Griffins saw a rough first quarter, only scoring 2 points. The Griffins found a spark during the second quarter, notching 11 points. The Eagles lead the Griffins 20 to 13 at the half.

The Griffins had a better showing during the second half, outscoring the Lady Eagles by three in the third and fourth quarters. The Griffins however, were unable to overcome the Lady Eagles,. The final score was 40-44 in favor of the Lady Eagles.

The Griffin scorers were led by Junior Lauren Lee who notched 13 points. Senior Lauren Oakes and Junior Brittany Mack both scored 8 points. Junior Ariana Muehlenbein added 7 points. Senior Kathleen Babb and Freshman Mariana Converse both scored 2 points apiece to round out the Griffin scorers.

Senior Recognition, Spartanburg Christian Academy
Loss 30-27

Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' team were defeated 30-27 in a close battle by Spartanburg Christian Academy.

In a game that was dominated by defense the Warriors managed to pull ahead in the 4th quarter to steal the victory from the Griffins.

Brittany Mack led the Griffins with 8 points. Lauren Oakes had 7 points while Kathleen Babb 5, Lauren Lee 5 and Ariana Muehlenbein 2 rounded out the scoring for the team.

Loss 66-48

Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' basketball team were defeated by Dorman High School 66-48 in a showcase game on Wednesday night.

In front of 3500 fans the Cavaliers used a 20-9 first quarter run to stay comfortably in front for the remainder of the contest.

Lauren Oakes led the Griffins with 13 points. Brittany Mack had 9, Ariana Muehlenbein added 8 and Mariana Converse 6, Kathleen Babb 4, Julia Cooper 4 and Lauren Lee 4 rounded out the scoring for the team.

The Griffins will be back in action on Friday night when they host Spartanburg Christian Academy in a match that will decide the region title. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Senior Recognition, Greenwood Christian School
Win 65-35
Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' defeated the Hawks of Greenwood Christian on Tuesday night by a score of 65-35 on Senior Night.

The Griffins started slowly in the first quarter but were able to lead the Hawks by a score of 18-7. The Griffins picked up their defensive intensity during the second quarter outscoring the Hawks by a score of 23-8. The Griffins led 41-15 at the half.

The Griffins had a solid second half and were able to coast to a 65-35 win on Senior Night. All Griffins saw action and all Griffins scored in Tuesday's contest.

The team was led by Senior Lauren Oakes and Freshman Mariana Converse who both scored 12 points apiece. Junior Brittany Mack notched 9 points. Junior Lauren Lee and Freshman Ashley Harley both added 6 points. Senior Julia Cooper and Sophomore Hannah Babb both had 4 points. Senior Kathleen Babb scored 3 points. Senior Ashley Henthorn, Junior Christine Yang, and Sophomore Taylor Ball all added 2 points apiece. Senior Sara McGown notched 1 point to round out the Griffin scorers.

The Griffins return to action on Wednesday with an away contest against Dorman High School. Tip off is a 6:00 p.m.

Spartanburg Christian Academy
Win 50-49
Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls defeated Spartanburg Christian on Friday night by a score of 50-49.

The Griffins and the Warriors found themselves in a battle during most of the first half, trading basket for basket for most the of the half. The Warriors were able to take a 21-19 lead into the half.

The Griffins took control of the third quarter outscoring the Warriors by three to take a one point lead going into the fourth quarter. The last quarter was an exciting track meet as both teams traded blow for blow for most of the quarter. The Griffins were able to take a commanding four point lead before a late Lady Warrior three point shot as time expired. The Griffins won 50-49.

The Griffin scorers were led by Junior Brittany Mack with 13 points. Senior Lauren Oakes added 12 points. Junior Lauren Lee scored 8 points while Senior Kathleen Babb scored 7 points. Junior Ariana Muehlenbein chipped in 6 points. Freshman Mariana Converse scored 2 points to round out the Griffin scorers.

The Griffins return to action on Tuesday night for Senior Night with a home contest against Greenwood Christian. Tip off is at 6pm.

Oakbrook Preparatory School
Win 52-33

Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' basketball team defeated Oakbrook Prep on Tuesday night by a score of 52-33.

The Griffins jumped out to a 17-6 lead during the first quarter and extended their lead to 32-14 going into to the half.

The second half was a closer contest, but the Griffins were able to hold to win 52-33.

The Griffins were led by Senior Lauren Oakes who had 14 points. Junior Brittany Mack scored 13 pints. Junior Lauren Lee and Senior Kathleen Babb scored 8 points and 7 points respectively. Freshman Marianna Converse had 4 points. Junior Ariana Muehlenbein and Sophomore Hannah Babb both chipped in 3 points to round out the Griffin scorers.

The Griffins return to action on Friday night with an away contest versus SCA. Tip off is at 6:00 p.m.

Homecoming, Shannon Forest Christian School
Win 58-10

Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' basketball team defeated Shannon Forest 58-10 in a region game on Homecoming night at SDS.

The Griffins jumped out to a 16-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they held a 28-5 lead at the half.

Spartanburg Day's 58-10 win keeps the team undefeated in region play and sets up a big game Tuesday night as they host Oakbrook Prep.

Lauren Oakes and Brittany Mack led the Griffins with 14 points. Lauren Lee added 10, Kathleen Babb scored 8. Also scoring for the Griffins were Julia Cooper 3, Marianna Converse 2, Ash-Kat Harley 2, Ariana Muehlenbein 2 and Susannah Lyon 2.

The teams record now stands at 7-4 and they will be back in action on Tuesday, January 23 as they host Oakbrook Prep. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Asheville Christian Academy
Loss 61-17

Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' basketball team had a tough night on the court as they were defeated 61-17 at home to Asheville Christian Academy.

The Lions proved too strong for the Griffins as they ran out to a 30-7 half time lead. They held on and sealed the win in the second half.

Kathleen Babb and Lauren Oakes both score 4 points in the loss.

The team will be back in action on Wednesday, January 17 as they host Rabun Gap. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

York Prep Charter
Loss 67-62

Rock Hill, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School girls' varsity team travelled to Rock Hill to take on York Prep in a non-Conference match up. In a close encounter it was York Prep who finished up winning 67-62.

The Griffins held a one point 27-26 lead at the half but unfortunately let the lead slip in the third quarter as York Prep outscored Spartanburg Day 21-12.

Spartanburg Day made a comeback in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough as York Prep closed out the game to win 67-62.

Brittany Mack led the Griffins with 20 points. Lauren Lee scored a season best 19 points. Lauren Oakes scored 9 points, Kathleen Babb 6 points, Ariana Muehlenbein 2 points and Marianna Converse 2 points rounded out the scoring for the team.

The Griffins will be back in action at home as they take on Asheville Christian Academy on Thursday, January 11. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Shannon Forest Christian School
Win 64-15

Greenville, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' team defeated Shannon Forest Christian School 64-15 to remain undefeated in region play.

The Griffins who were back in action after the Christmas break dominated the first half as they only allowed the Crusaders to score four points.

It was more of the same in the second half as Spartanburg Day outscored Shannon Forest 31-11 to close out the game.

Senior Lauren Oakes led the Griffins with 16 points. Brittany Mack added 12, Muehlenbein had 10, Converse continued her fine displays this year by scoring 8. Rounding out the scorers were Hannah Babb with 8, Lauren Lee 6, Kathleen Babb 4 and senior Sara McCown scored her first ever points as she had 2.

The Griffins will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Rock Hill to take on York Prep.
