Soccer - Varsity Girls
Hilton Head, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' soccer team traveled to Hilton Head Prep to take on the Dolphins in the quarter finals of the SCISA 2A State Championships.
In an exiciting and very competitive game the Dolphins came away with a 2-1 victory to move past the Griffins into the next round of the State Cup.
For the Griffins Vinnie Webster scored the goal and it was assisted by Raegan Cash and Ash-Kat Harley.
After the game Spartanburg Day said goodbye to their seniors of 2018. Lauren Oakes, Lily Webster, Sara McCown, Julia Cooper, Mary-Fields Chewning and Maisie MacMullan.
"These girls will always have a special place in my heart as they gave it their all for the team each year. Looking towards the future we have some special talent coming up as we played a lot of freshman and 8th graders in todays game," remarked Coach Nick Buxton.

Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' soccer team lost 11-0 in a region game against Oakbrook Prep.
The Knights who had already won the Region Championship looked solid all night as they defeated the Griffins.
The team will now wait until Friday to see if they will qualify for the SCISA State Championships.
Asheville, N.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity soccer girls travelled to Asheville to take on the Trailblazers and lost 6-1.
The Griffins scored the opening goal of the contest after great work by Vinnie Webster who dribbled past her defender and played a pass through to Ash-Kat Harley. The forward made no mistake as she powered the ball into the back of the net to the give her team a 1-0 lead.
The wheels then came off as the Trailblazers went on to score 6 unanswered goals to win 6-1.
The team will be back in action on Tuesday, May 1 as they travel to Oakbrook Prep to take on the Knights in the last regular season game of the year. Kick off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' soccer team defeated Spartanburg Christian Academy 2-0.
The goals were scored by eighth grader Raegan Cash.
"We have had a lot of injuries to important members of the team this year and we moved Raegan up to play for the varsity tonight. Her overall performance tonight showed us that it was the right decision and honestly I thought she was the best player on the field tonight," remarked coach Nick Buxton after the game.
The Griffins will be back in action on Thursday, April 26 as they closed out region play with a trip to Oakbrook Prep. The kick off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School girls' varsity soccer team suffered a heavy 10-0 defeat at the hands of the reigning SCISA 2A State Champions Oakbrook Prep.
The Griffins battled hard but couldn't keep the Knights at bay as Oakbrook led 8-0 at the half.
The visiting team added two more goals in the second half to finish the game with ten goals.
The Griffins will be back in action on Wednesday, April 11 as they host Cambridge Academy. The kick off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' soccer team defeated Spartanburg Christian Academy 4-0.
It was an important region win for the Griffins and improves their overall record to 4-3.
Freshman Hope Moreno got things started with a left footed shot from the top of the area that flew into the bottom corner of the goal. Ash-Kat Harley also a freshman added two goals before halftime to give the Griffins a three goal advantage going into the second half.
Senior captain Lauren Oakes scored in her fourth game in a row to seal the victory for Spartanburg Day.
The Griffins will be back in action on Monday, April 9 when they host Oakbrook Prep. Kick off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Greenwood, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity soccer girls defeated Greenwood Christian School 9-0 in a region match Thursday night.
Goals were scored by Ash-Kat Harley (2), Lily Webster (2), Vinnie Webster (2), Hope Moreno (2) and senior captain Lauren Oakes.
The win improves the Griffins record to 3-3 and they will be back in action on Tuesday, March 27 with a home game against Spartanburg Christian Academy. Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls' soccer team made it two wins in a row as they defeated Shannon Forest Christian School 3-1.
An early goal by Raegan Cash gave the Griffins the lead after only 10 seconds of action. The Griffins doubled their lead in the 55th minute. Good work by Vinnie Webster and Ash-Kat Harley down the right hand side saw a ball fall to senior Lauren who shot into the corner of the goal.
Oakes scored her second of the night as Ashlin Cash and Raegan Cash combined to set up the forward who smashed a shot into the top of the goal.
The Crusaders got a goal back late on but the Griffins held firm to secure an important region win.
The teams record now stands at 2-3 and they will be back in action on Thursday, March 22 as they travel to Greenwood Christian School. Kick off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
