Broome High Invitational
Girls: 4th

Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School track and field teams competed at the Broome High School invitational.

The girls came in 4th place.

For the sprinters, senior Kathleen Babb came in first place in the 400m run and second place in the 100m dash. Sophomore Hannah Babb earned third place in the 400m run.

On the distance side, sophomore Susannah Lyon came in first place in both the 1600m and the 3200m runs. Sophomore Ellie Toler finished in fourth place in the 800m, and seventh-grader Vivian Gilman came in sixth in the 3200m.

In the field, senior Mary-Edens McAbee came in first place in the high jump and senior Anna Stone followed in fourth place. Hannah Babb also earned fifth place in the long jump.

The boys did not score.

Next up, the Travel track group will compete in the Spartanburg County Championship meet at Broome High School on Wednesday, April 18 and Thursday, April 19.
Heathwood Hall Invitational
Girls - 4th, Boys - 7th

On Wednesday, 3/28/18, JV and Varsity Track groups competed at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia, SC.


The girls came in 4th place.



Sprinter senior Kathleen Babb came in first place in the 200m and 400m running events, and second place in the 100m dash. Sophomore Hannah Babb came in third place in the 400m run. Kathleen and Hannah, along with senior Anna Stone and freshman Elizabeth Stone came in third place in the 4x100m relay.

On the distance side, sophomore Susannah Lyon came in second and third place, respectively, in the 800m and 1600m runs. Sophomore Ellie Toler came in fifth place in both the 800m and 1600m events.

In the field, senior Mary-Edens McAbee came in fifth place in the high jump.

The boys came in 7th place.

Sophomore Cooper Hannah came in fifth place in the 3200m run, and sophomore Charles Richard came in fifth place in the high jump.

Next up, the JV and Varsity track teams will compete at Broome High School on Thursday, 4/12/18
Providence Day School Invitational

Charlotte, N.C.- The Middle School track team competed at Providence Day School in Charlotte, NC.

For the girls, seventh grader Vivian Gilman finished in the top five in each of her events, earning third place in the 1600 and 3200 and fifth place in the 800m run.

On the boys side, seventh graders Ian Wright and Nathan Moseley finished first and second in the 3200m run.

Next up, the JV and Varsity track teams will compete at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia on Wednesday, March 28.
Southside Christian Invitational
Girls: 2nd Boys: 5th

Greenville, S.C.- On Tuesday, the Griffins JV and Varsity track teams competed at a meet at Southside Christian School.

The girls' team finished in 2nd place.

Senior Kathleen Babb earned first place in the 100m and 200m sprints, and second place in the 400m dash. The girls' 4x100m relay team, composed of Kathleen Babb, sophomore Hannah Babb, senior Anna Stone, and junior Brittany Mack came in second place.

On the distance side, sophomores Susannah Lyon and Ellie Toler finished in second and fourth place, respectively, in the 1600m. Susannah Lyon as well as sophomores Rachel Summers and Kathryn Child all earned top 5 finishing positions in the 3200m run. Additionally, the girls' 4x800m relay team, Rachel Summers, Kathryn Child, Ellie Toler, and junior Anne Dobson Ball came in second place.

In the field, senior Mary-Edens McAbee came in third place in the high jump and the shot put, as well as fourth place in the triple jump. Anna Stone came in first place in the long jump and fifth place in the triple jump. Sophomore Elizabeth Stone earned third place in the triple jump.

The boys' team finished in 5th place.

Freshman Liam Kelly came in first place in the high jump, setting a new school record. Sophomore Charles Richard set a new school record in the triple jump.

Next up, the Middle School track team will compete at Providence Day School in Charlotte on Thursday, March 22. The start time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.


Glover Smiley Relays
Girls: 7th. Boys 9th.

Spartanburg, S.C.- On Saturday, March 17, the Travel track team competed at the Glover Smiley Vikings Relays at Spartanburg High School.

The girls' team finished in 7th place.

The 4x200m relay team, composed of sophomore Hannah Babb, junior Brittany Mack, and seniors Kathleen Babb and Anna Stone, set a new school record. Also, the Mile Medley relay group, Brittany Mack, Hannah and Kathleen Babb, and sophomore Susannah Lyon, finished in first place and set a new school record in that event. Both Anna Stone and freshman Elizabeth Stone set new personal bests in Triple Jump.

The boys' team finished in 9th place.

Sophomore Charles Richard set new personal bests in both High Jump and Triple Jump.

Next up, the JV and Varsity groups will compete at Southside Christian School on Tuesday, March 20.
Boiling Springs Invitational
Girls - 2nd, Boys - 3rd

Spartanburg, S.C.- The Spartanburg Day School junior varsity and varsity track teams competed at Boiling Springs High School against both Boiling Springs and Byrnes High Schools.

The girls' team finished in 2nd place.

Sprinters senior Kathleen Babb and sophomore Hannah Babb finished in first and fourth place, respectfully, in the 400m dash. The 4x100m relay team of juniors Brittany Mack, Anna Stone, as well as Kathleen and Hannah Babb finished in second place.

For the distance runners, sophomore Susannah Lyon finished in second place in the 1600m. Sophomore Ellie Toler finished in second place in the 3200m run. The girls' 4x800m team, comprised of sophomores Kathryn Child, Rachel Summers, Ellie Toler, and Susannah Lyon finished in second place.

In the field events, freshman Gracie Hawkins finished in third place in the discus, and senior Mary-Edens McAbee came in second place. Mary-Edens McAbee also came in third in the shot put. In the long jump, senior Anna Stone came in first place, followed by sophomore Hannah Babb. Anna Stone also came in first in the triple jump. Freshman Elizabeth Stone finished in first place in the high jump.

The boys' team finished in 3rd place.

Freshman sprinter Liam Kelly finished in second place in the 400m dash. Additionally, in the field, Liam Kelly finished in third in the high jump, setting a new school record. Sophomore Charles Richard finished in second place in the triple jump.

Next up, the travel group will compete at the Glover Smiley Relays at Spartanburg High School on Saturday, March 17. The middle school team will also compete on Saturday, March 17, at Southside Christian School.

Chelsea Dranichak

Chelsea Dranichak joined the SDS coaching staff in the summer of 2014 as an assistant to the cross country team and quickly graduated to head coach of the team. As a high school athlete, Coach Snyder ran for three years. Since that time she has done a half-marathon and two 10-K runs. She has enjoyed watching her runners accomplish their goals.
