"This was a marathon match with our six and seventh graders playing against 9th through 11th graders. We lost 2 matches in tie breakers. Some of the rally exchanges went up to 30 shots. Several of our opponents complimented the skill level of our young team. We started at 4:00 and our match did not end until 7:40. I could not have been more proud of the fight in our Griffins," stated Coach Randy Bernard.

The teams record is now 2-4. They will be back in action on Monday, October 2. When they host Asheville School. The start time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

"This was by far the best match of the season with each player playing to their fullest potential. Sixth grader Tressa Greene ended up playing 3 hours going into a 16-14 third set tiebreaker victory. Both doubles were defaulted due to the overwhelming win of our Griffin Girls," stated Coach Randy Bernard.

"This was a great first match of the season for our team. We got behind in our singles 4-2 but two out of those four matches that we lost went into tiebreakers. The Vikings dominated two out of the three doubles to close out the match. The player of the day was Iren Enuica who won both her singles and her doubles matches," remarked coach Randy Bernard

The team will be back in action on Wednesday, August 30th when they travel to play against St. Joseph Catholic School. The start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Randy Bernard

Coach Randy Bernard joined the Spartanburg Day School tennis program in the spring of 2014 with more than 35 years of coaching experience. He coaches the junior varsity boys’ and girls’ tennis teams. He is in the USTA South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame and a two-time winner of the USPTA National President’s Award. He is also a four-time Pro of the Year, nominated by USTA of South Carolina. Coach Bernard loves to make a difference in the lives of his student-athletes, not only developing tennis skills, but showing them how the sport teaches life lessons.
