I’m a Griffin Day

We had such fun at I’m a Griffin Day! Our preschoolers decorated pumpkins while our kindergarten through fourth grade students participated in some outdoor games on the soccer field.  Thank you to our incredible coaches for planning games and activities for us! Here are some pictures that we captured from the day.

Brave Conversations with Children

Sometimes it is difficult to know how to answer the questions of curious children or how to approach more difficult topics.  This article from Common Sense Media provides guidance on how to have brave conversations with children at age-appropriate levels.  We will focus on this topic in an upcoming virtual meeting with our counselor and guest speaker, Elizabeth Watson.  Please mark your calendars and join us on Thursday, October 22 at 9 am. Parents’ Community posted the virtual link in this week's Griffin Days.

Lower School Bingo for Books

Parents’ Community is sponsoring a virtual Bingo Night in which prizes will be age appropriate books. This will be a fun activity for parents and students to share with other Day School families while also celebrating our love of reading. Our first Bingo Night is this upcoming Wednesday for 2K and 3K at 6:00 pm.  We will show the book prize to everyone before each game.  Please RSVP to wickie.willard@sdsgriffin.org by Wednesday morning so that we can send home the bingo card, card markers, and directions with your child. You will also receive a zoom link via email to attend. We look forward to some fun and outstanding book prizes!

Halloween Celebration

Halloween festivities may look different this year, but we still have plans for an enjoyable celebration in Lower School. Students may wear costumes to school on Friday, October 30. We can’t wait to see everyone dressed up! Please refrain from wearing scary costumes that may frighten the younger children.  Masks that are part of a costume may be brought to school, but students will be asked to take them off during class time. Lower School Parents' Community representatives have organized "party cart" deliveries with Griffins Table so that treats and prizes can be a part of class parties.  The US students have decorated Presnell for all of the school community to enjoy, but especially for LS students. They are creating a candy chute from the balcony so that classes can "trick or treat" from below and receive a goodie bag. Please rest assured that we have thought through details on how to keep everyone safe and ensure the school’s health and safety protocols are followed throughout the day.

Report Cards

Report cards will be available on Friday, October 23.  Preschool students will have report cards in their blue folders when they come home from school.  Parents of students in kindergarten through fourth grade will now access online report cards though FACTS, the school’s database.  In an effort to be environmentally friendly and utilize our resources well, we are excited to offer this as an option.  (There is a lot of helpful information in FACTS including an online parent directory.) This shift in access will also provide a smooth transition to Middle School and Upper School where FACTS is used for accessing grades and online report cards. Mrs. Celia Cooksey has provided step-by-step directions for accessing FACTS on the link below. If you have any questions you are welcome to contact her at celia.cooksey@sdsgriffin.org.  Miss Wickie is also able to help you access your account if you experience any difficulty (wickie.willard@sdsgriffin.org).
