News from the Lower School

Week of Aug. 23

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful first week of school it has been! Although we've had a few tears from our youngest learners, there have been many more smiles as students have happily returned to campus this week. Our Lower School is once again filled with classrooms of eager learners. The first few days we have spent time getting to know each other and learning the routines. We have also read new books, sang new songs, made beautiful artwork, practiced our Spanish, and played games with Coach Bob at PE.

Students visited the treasure box on Wednesday to choose their prize from completing summer work, and I'm so proud of their determination.  The summer work was more challenging this year, and yet our students persevered and finished. If your child did not yet turn in their summer work, there is still time and many prizes available in the treasure box.

This year is a bit different than last year, as we have reopened some various spaces on campus. Children returned to specialist classrooms this week and were thrilled to once again visit the library, Spanish classroom, and Dent building for Art and Music enrichment classes. We also returned to the Dining Commons this week for lunch, and it was incredible.  Not only did Griffins Table serve the most delicious food, but we showed our best manners and enjoyed dining with our grade level friends.

We love having our parents in our buildings once again, and we are so appreciative of the way you are following the school's health guidelines while on campus. I have recently met more of you after a year that made introductions difficult. Please stop by and say hello when you are on campus. If we have not yet met, I hope that we can meet very soon.

We are beyond excited about the year ahead. We have been making preparations since the spring for this to be the best year, and now we are here! As this year begins, I feel such pride to work with such amazing teachers and faculty and partner with families to provide a superior educational experience, in a community of trust, that prepares students for a life well lived. Thank you for entrusting us with the care and education of your children. We will not only educate them but nurture them in a safe and loving community.

Sincerely,

Sunny Huckaby
