Parents' Community

The Parents’ Community is a space where parents from all divisions can come together to socialize and celebrate the many stages of life in a community of trust.

Parents' Community aims to strengthen the bonds of connectedness between our faculty and families, creating a sense of community that brings us all together.

Throughout the year, the Parents’ Community provides many opportunities for parents to get to know one another through both whole family and parent-only socials. Profits from our annual auction, color run and bake sale go back to support SDS – our students, our teachers and our programs.

A few of our events...

Family Socials

Our family socials are hosted throughout the year and provide an opportunity for families to get to know each other over delicious food and fun games. Events include Fall Festival, school picnic, family game nights and our end of year Fr8yard social. Please follow our social media pages for more information on these events.

Polar Express

Kick off your holiday season with our signature Polar Express night! Families can enjoy a night of rolling, cutting, baking and decorating your own sugar cookies. While the cookies bake families can make ornaments, play holiday games, snap a photo, enjoy a cup of hot cocoa or visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Don’t miss this warm family event that is free for all families to attend.

Parent Socials

Parents' Community is hosts a number of parent-only socials throughout the school year. We kick off our year with an all-parent social at Cribb's Kitchen the Monday before school starts. We host events such as charcuterie night, beer social or events at the Flower Bar. Coming this spring we will host our first-ever oyster roast – a free event for parents to celebrate our community.

Color Run

Another fantastic, very colorful all-family event is our SDS Color Run. This event has become an annual fall fundraiser hosting a 5K race and a 1-mile fun run around the SDS campus. Run, jog or walk the course while color powder is tossed in your direction. All ages come together to get messy and raise funds to support our school!

Teacher Appreciation

Our teachers are the heart of our school, giving so much of themselves to the success of our students. Our teacher appreciation committee shows our support with different offerings for faculty each month of the school year. They stock beverage fridges in divisional break rooms year round, celebrate with treats at the holidays and end the year with a full week of teacher appreciation.

Celebration & Auction

The annual auction and party is Parents' Community’s main fundraiser, held every spring. This year our event will undergo a rebranding, allowing for a more inclusive and intimate event for parents and faculty. All are invited to browse a myriad of silent and live auction items while enjoying food, music and spirits. This is an event you do not want to miss!

Bake Sales

Every Friday before Thanksgiving we host the tastiest event at SDS! All are welcome to contribute delectable baked goods and/or just stop by to purchase a few delicious treats! It is the perfect place for parents and faculty to stock up on baked goods for the holidays.

Fall Festival

Fall Festival is an epic family tradition here at SDS! The Parents' Community, the junior class and student government team up to put on an awesome afternoon of food, fun and games on the soccer fields and Dorrance Plaza. Get ready for a cookout, inflatables, rock wall, carnival games, face-painting and more!

Parent involvement has always been important at Spartanburg Day School. When the school was established in 1957, the "Mother's Club" made sandwiches and soup for students daily.
