HALLOWEEN AT SDS
Halloween is a special tradition at SDS. This year will bring new health and safety challenges to overcome, but don't worry – we won't let the holiday pass without some spooky fun for our Griffins! In lieu of the traditional all-school Halloween parade and trunk-or-treat, we're planning opportunities for students to safely celebrate throughout the day. Please plan to send your student to school in costume on Friday, Oct. 30, for a day of tricks, treats and tradition!
DEI STEERING COMMITTEE HOLDS INAUGURAL MEETING Spartanburg Day School's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Steering Committee held its inaugural meeting Wednesday via Zoom to lead our school's efforts to be more purposeful in cultivating an environment where all individuals feel known, accepted and valued. Represented on the committee are faculty members, students, alumni, parents, administrators and members of our board of trustees. Serving as co-chairs are board members and current SDS parents Marjorie Appiah and Michel Stone.
DONATE YOUR UNWANTED TREASURES TO THE INTERACT CLUB YARD SALE
Fall is the time to clean out that messy garage, basement, or storage building, so let us help you declutter while donating to a good cause. The Spartanburg Day School Interact Club is now accepting donations for its annual yard sale. The club is asking for household items, clean/gently used clothing, tools, furniture, knick knacks, toys or anything you feel will be beneficial.
Donations will be accepted from now through the morning of Nov. 9; pick-ups will be available until Wednesday, Nov. 7. Please contact susan.owens@sdsgriffin.org or levi.wall@sdsgriffin.org to arrange.

FLAG THE LAWN THIS VETERANS DAY
Interact Club's annual Flag the Lawn event will be held on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11. The boys' service club is once again selling flags for students to place in the lawn at school. Order flags in advance by Nov. 6 using the form linked below and return to your student's advisor or homeroom teacher or to Interact volunteers in carpool lines on Nov. 2, 4 or 6. Flags can also be purchased the morning of the 11th. If you would like to purchase a flag in honor or memory of a veteran, please make a note on the form with the person's name and branch of service.
Interact is selling flags in three sizes: small ($5), medium ($25) and large ($100). All proceeds will be donated to Upstate Warrior Solution, a nonprofit organization that connects warriors and their families to resources and opportunities.
Please pay by cash or check (made payable to SDS with "Upstate Warrior Solution" in the memo line). Email Jack Birney, Jonathan Overton, Grayson Hannah or Susan Owens with questions.
The Parents' Community knows how hard it has been for our faculty and staff to reopen SDS safely and successfully with the unprecedented times we are living in right now. With that said, we'd like to start a monthly spotlight on those who are going above and beyond to show our appreciation! This month we'd like to shine the light on the School Nurse Brelan Montgomery! When it comes to kindness, empathy and caring for others, nurses have us all beat. Nurses are the epitome of kindheartedness. They embody sympathy, selflessness, and doing good for other people.
Nurse Brelan works tirelessly to ensure the wellbeing of our students and faculty, and the Parents' Community has witnessed her compassionate actions daily since the start of school in August. On behalf of all parents at Spartanburg Day School, we'd like to say THANK YOU Nurse Brelan for all you do on a daily basis to keep our children safe!
