Spartanburg Day School's weekly newsletter Week of November 16 DIVISION NEWS
Click for important news and announcements, from your division head to you! A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL The sun came out this morning with the promise of a postcard fall weekend. The weather forecast is brighter than our local news regarding the rise in cases of COVID-19 in our Spartanburg area. We are watching the local statistics very closely as we prepare for the remaining weeks of the semester and our three divisions create schedules that will maximize instruction. I am grateful to each of them and to our faculty for their flexibility and for their commitment to delivering on our promise of a superior educational experience, even during a pandemic. Anytime I am asked about the potential of school closing, my answer is always the same. We will remain in person on campus until it is no longer safe to do so. Today, we are one week from dismissal for the Thanksgiving holidays. Holiday traditions, travel and family gatherings are upon us. We ask that you review recommendations from SCDHEC on guidelines regarding the upcoming holiday. To date, we have posted low numbers of COVID-19 positive cases and of students or faculty required to quarantine. The low numbers and our many preventative measures have allowed us to remain in school five days a week. Please consider the days ahead of us and our collective desire to remain in person in school as you plan holiday outings and travel.
Finally, I want to close on a non-COVID-19 note. This week we have remembered and celebrated our veterans with Flag the Lawn, sponsored by Interact Club. They did an excellent job in leading our school in this annual remembrance. Also, they have hauled and collected truckload upon truckload of donated items for the annual Interact Yard Sale to be held tomorrow. Annual Fund volunteers are hard at work on this year's campaign. Fourth grade had its exhibition kick-off. Basketball teams are practicing for an upcoming season. Our youngest Griffins are learning in the Cove, and our seniors are hard at work on essays and college applications. We are not letting COVID-19 hold us back. We may be doing all of these activities with face coverings and distanced, but we are remaining Griffin Strong and having good days at school! That is something for which to be grateful. Have a great week! Rachel S. Deems Head of School

Please consider sending in any spare change so that they can reach their goal of $1,200. Look for Change for Change jars in the Lower School lobby, with Middle School advisors or in the Upper School lobby.
ITEMS NEEDED FOR FREE FOOD PANTRY
The Free Food Pantry, established in 2018 by SDS students, provides those in need with access to non-perishable food, hygiene items and other necessities. Student organizers encourage you and your family to help fill it by bringing items to campus (bins are located in the Milliken Lobby and Lower School lobby) or stopping by the pantry yourself! Your generosity will help make a difference in our community! The pantry is located beside the Arthur Center at First Presbyterian Church.
