April 24

Dear Spartanburg Day School Learning Community,

This week offered several meaningful reminders of what makes Spartanburg Day School such a special place.

On Wednesday, we celebrated one of our most treasured traditions, the Spirit of the Griffin assembly. It is always inspiring to recognize students and members of our community who exemplify character, service, academic commitment, and respect for others. These honorees remind us that being a Griffin is about far more than achievement; it is about how we live, lead, and care for one another.

We also revealed our first varsity football schedule in more than 40 years! We announced our plan back in 2024, and this week it became real when we released our 2026 regular season schedule. This is an exciting new chapter for Spartanburg Day School and a reflection of our continued growth and commitment to expanding opportunities for students. There is tremendous momentum surrounding this program, and we look forward to seeing the Griffins take the field at Pennell Field this August.

Today, we had the joy of watching our kindergarten students take the stage in the Valerie M. Barnet Theatre for their animal adaptations presentations. Their confidence, creativity, and thoughtful presentations were remarkable. Seeing research, public speaking, and critical thinking developing so early was a powerful reminder that the foundation for a life well lived begins in our earliest classrooms.

From honoring character, to launching a new era in athletics, to celebrating joyful learning, this week captured the spirit of our school in wonderful ways.

Thank you for all you do to support Spartanburg Day School. I hope you have a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Sincerely,

Dave Skeen
