From Head of School Dave Skeen

April 3

Dear Spartanburg Day School Learning Community,

The Easter Bunny had some real competition today here at Spartanburg Day School.

Students across all divisions joined in on Easter Egg Hunts throughout the day, and it didn’t take long before they were off and running. From our youngest Griffins to our older students, it was so much fun to see everyone outside, moving across campus, and enjoying time together. Days like this are a great reminder of what makes our SDS community so special. Thank you to our families, faculty, and staff who help make these experiences possible.

It has also been a week worth celebrating. We are incredibly proud of two of our students, Mary Ella Bullington and Samuel Hinckley Kitchen, who have been named finalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. This is a significant achievement and speaks to their hard work, character, and commitment to excellence. It is something our entire Spartanburg Day School community can celebrate alongside them.

And, of course, we couldn’t let April Fools’ Day pass without having a little fun. Some of you may have heard the rumor on April 1st that our beloved mascot Spartacus had been sidelined with an injury for the remainder of the year. Thankfully, I can report that Spartacus is doing just fine, and he’s back to bringing his usual school spirit across campus!

As we head into the weekend, I hope you and your family enjoy a joyful and peaceful Easter. We will be closed tomorrow in observance of Good Friday, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday.

Sincerely,

Dave W. Skeen, Head of School
