From Head of School Dave Skeen

August 22

Dear SDS Learning Community,

What a truly fantastic first full week it has been at Spartanburg Day School! The energy on campus has been vibrant, and it's been wonderful to see our mission and values come to life across all divisions.

Our students have wasted no time diving into their passions and leadership opportunities. In Upper School we saw the first Youth in Government club meeting, where students engaged in discussions about state governance, embodying our commitment to developing purposeful and confident leaders. Our service-oriented Interact Club also welcomed guest speakers, further inspiring its growing membership of 90 students to be meaningful contributors to society and live a life well-lived.

This week also marked a meaningful tradition as our Upper School students signed the Honor Code, reaffirming their commitment to integrity, responsibility, and respect within our community.

We enjoyed the opportunity to connect with our families at the Parents' Community Parent Social at Cribb's on Monday and seeing everybody again at the first Back to School Night for our Preschool and Lower School families. These gatherings are essential in cultivating thriving relationships and strengthening our community of trust.

And of course, what's a school year without some thrilling athletic moments? We celebrated our first JV football game, which even included our first lightning delay – a memorable experience that truly showcased the spirit of our school and the resilience of our student-athletes.

These early activities are just a glimpse of how we are collectively shaping the identity and experience of SDS. We look forward to many more enriching experiences throughout the year!

Sincerely,
