Dear Spartanburg Day School Learning Community,
This week, I witnessed two moments on campus that illustrate the unique spirit of our school and the power of our 2K-12 model.
In the first, as I exited the Upper School assembly on Monday morning, I entered the play area for Middle School students who were out for recess. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed an 11th grader head toward his younger brother, put his arm around him, and offered a few pointers about how he might spend the rest of his recess. In the second, I saw a sixth-grade student rush from the snack canteen to give two Upper School girls who she carpools to school a hug. These small but meaningful interactions reflect the deep bonds and genuine care that define our school community.
This is something truly special. There is no other school in Spartanburg where these connections across ages, grades, and divisions are a natural part of daily life. It’s not just the result of our 2K-12 model—it’s a testament to our whole-child approach, where relationships, character, and belonging are as important as academic excellence.
As we move through this holiday season, I encourage all of us to reflect on and celebrate the unique culture we have created together. Moments like these remind us of the joy and purpose that come from being part of such a close-knit community.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. I wish you and your family a holiday season filled with warmth, gratitude, and connection.
Warm regards,
