From Head of School Dave Skeen

January 31

Dear Spartanburg Day School Learning Community,

There are only a few times a year we are able to come together as a whole school - Preschool through Upper School - and Homecoming might be the most fun. The day started with our younger students walking the halls of Presnell as our Upper School students worked to make those same halls come alive with their Homecoming themes for the week. We were serenaded by a 9th grade rock band and light show, a 10th grade 80s pop mash-up, a 12th grade country honky tonk, and an 11th class disco.

After that, we all convened in Stone Gym for our pep rally which kicked off with our Griffinettes, and concluded with our male cheerleaders getting the crowd pumped and ushered along by our pep band's lively rendition of "Call Me Maybe". It was a great warm-up for our Griffin Fund Day of Giving, which continues until midnight tonight and is focused on participating in the Griffin Fund—any amount of gift gets us closer to our 200 gift goal and a matching $10,000 donation.

Tonight we will host four games on our basketball courts, and at halftime of our Varsity Boys game, we will welcome our Homecoming Court. It is bound to be a feel good moment. And that is what weeks like this do for a school like us - reinforce that feel good vibe that Preschool through 12th grade school can offer. That is why our Upper School students put in the work last night to decorate their halls, that is why we held a pep rally—we want to cultivate that feeling at Homecoming. That feeling that we are family, we are proud of the fact we are Griffins, and can celebrate what it means to be a part of THIS community. So I will hopefully see you tonight and Go Griffins!

Sincerely,
