Dear Spartanburg Day School Learning Community,
Welcome back to campus! It has been a joy to see everyone together again after the break and to witness the immediate rekindling of curiosity that defines our learning community. There is a unique excitement in the return—reconnecting with friends, sharing stories of our time away, and jumping back into the rhythm of the school day. As we gather once more, we are reminded that Spartanburg Day School is fundamentally a community of trust built on meaningful relationships across all divisions. Whether it is the 12th graders preparing for their next steps or our preschoolers exploring the campus, the energy on Skylyn Drive confirms the value of the consistency and continuity provided by our 2K-12th grade model.
This sense of connection was perfectly captured this week by our 3s, who have been busy expanding their vocabularies. After learning the word “suspicious,” the students found it quite applicable when they noticed my office door was closed, leading them to wonder if I was perhaps inside sleeping. I was heartened by their relief—and perhaps a bit of surprise—to find that I was, in fact, awake and at work. This delightful moment exemplifies how we encourage even our youngest learners to be purposeful in exploring the world beyond them and to feel confident enough to engage with leadership. It is a privilege to lead a school where students are so well known that they feel empowered to investigate their surroundings, fostering the agency and curiosity necessary for a life well lived.
Sincerely,
Dave
