Dear Spartanburg Day School Learning Community,
I have noticed at morning carpool and afternoon pick up a heavy yellow dusting on the cars that come through campus. As we celebrate the ignominious title of worst allergy metropolitan area in the country by some accounts, there is something more than a sneeze to talk about these days! You may have also seen that Spartanburg is one of the fastest growing parts of the country and the momentum is evident in our downtown and across the county and now, on our own Skylyn Drive.
At SDS we enter this spring season with a lot of wind at our backs as well. The spring sports season is well underway with our boys and girls soccer teams making sure the region knows who they are early on in anticipation for the playoffs next month. Our Track & Field Program is growing, as demonstrated by our own Essence Olley breaking a school record in shot put in her first meet ever! The lacrosse programs continue to grow in their second year in existence with over fifty players between the two programs and middle school baseball just drove in twenty-five runs in their latest game.
Seussical will be in Tech Week when we return on Monday, meaning it is all hands on deck for our theatre program and if you can sneak into the Valerie M. Barnet Theatre, you will be in for a treat as you immerse yourself in the color and creativity of Dr. Seuss' world as it comes alive. Our jazz band went to Charleston Southern University for a competition at the beginning of the month and crushed it. March, April and May are exciting, culminating months for an independent school.
And the excitement doesn't stop just because the weekend is here. Our very own Raices group is hosting an international fair on campus in the Milliken Gym from 11:00AM to 1:00PM tomorrow and would love to see you all there.
Have a wonderful weekend and we will be sneezing back here on Monday!
Sincerely,
Dave W. Skeen, Head of School
