Dear Upper School Students & Parents, 

Congratulations on an amazing start to the 2025-2026 school year! This week–while shorter than most–has been packed with excitement, traditions, and new beginnings. Highlights from the week include:

• 3o Upper School faculty welcoming 153 Upper School students to campus. 
• the Class of 2026 celebrating their “Last First Day” with individual and Advisory portraits and a delicious Chick-Fil-A/Krispy Kreme breakfast. ((Thank you to the Parents’ Community!))
• ringing in the new school year at our All-School Assembly. 
• celebrating the Class of 2026 and their Kindergarten buddies.
• honoring the Boys Tennis Team for their 2025 State Championship.
• relishing in the new snack options available through Griffin’s Table. 

Looking towards next week (our first FULL week!), I’m looking forward to:

• our Parents’ Community Social at Cribb’s on Monday, 8/18 @ 5:30 PM. 
• the annual Upper School Honor Code Signing Ceremony on Wednesday, 8/20.
• the All Sports Parent Meeting in Stone Gym on Wednesday, 8/20 @ 5:00 PM.
• the Senior Parent Social in the Dining Commons on Sunday, 8/24 @ 4:00 PM.

I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention how much I enjoyed addressing the division on the first day of school. My message centered around the work that we get to do together, while reminding how we might live the School’s Mission (To provide a superior educational experience, in a community of trust, that prepares students for a life well lived) each day. Students (and Faculty!) shared what they were excited about learning this year, how they plan to contribute to our community, and how they plan to bring their “best self” to school each day. We will revisit these questions throughout the year, as our Mission will always serve as our true north.

Finally, a bit of gratitude: starting school is no easy feat! Thank you to every member of the Day School community for the contributions that led to this moment. As I often say, “There is no tired like “Back-to-School” tired." ((I’m certain that we are all grateful for our 2.5 day week!)) I wish you a wonderful weekend full of rest, relaxation, and recuperation. The ‘25-’26 school year is poised to be the best yet, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds! Go Griffins!
