Week of April 15

As is always the case in April, our week was filled with arts performances, sports, and special programming. We opened the week with a late start to accommodate the 2024 Eclipse. Students and faculty shared excitement around this unique learning opportunity. On Tuesday, Spartanburg Methodist College President Scott Cochran led a senior series that touched on several essential aspects of college life. He focused on four pillars—vision, reality, ethics, and courage. We are immensely grateful to Scott for sharing his time and wisdom.

The next photo series highlights our Wednesday and Thursday activities.
Game night was a fun time of dodgeball and trivia. Valentina Landa, Blair Loring, and SGA organized the event. Everyone who attended had lots of fun!

Thursday began course registration for the 2024-2025 school year. We reviewed the process with students in the morning assembly. Students have been asked to partner with parents (please sign off on the course registration sheet before your student submits their requests). Many adults on campus can serve as valuable resources for this process. Teachers, advisors, college counselors, and administrators are ready to lend guidance as needed. Feel free to reach out anytime. Helpful materials can be found here.

Thursday evening featured a superb spring band concert. Seniors Cole Bryant, Fort Johnson, and Grayson Stanis (featured at the top of this post) were recognized, and band students' passion and talent were evident throughout the night. Fantastic job, Griffins!

We closed the week with our annual Spirit of the Griffin assembly, where Upper School honored the following:

Spirit of the Griffin recipients: Copeland Foster & Mary Hannah Willoughby
Ben Stone: Eve Decker

Delta Dedication: Dr. Susan Owens
Incoming Student Body President and Vice President: Valentina Landa (P) and Blair Loring (VP)The State Championship Swim Teams were recognized and received their rings. Celebrating together was a wonderful way to end the week.

Congratulations to all!

Next week, we return to our academic routine as we barrel toward AP Exams and a host of end-of-year events. Monday is an A day. Tuesday, we have alumni returning to deliver another Senior Series event at MidMac. The senior/faculty luncheon is Wednesday from 11:30 to 12:30 on Dorrance Plaza. Select students will head to the Clemson Calculus Challenge on Friday, and band students depart for their spring trip that morning. Please reach out to Mr. Barnes for more details. Dr. Owens will also travel to Clemson on Saturday morning with AP Stats students as they participate in a practice exam. Good luck and safe travels, Griffins!

End-of-year reminder emails will begin this coming week. Please watch for those and reach out with any questions.

Lastly, progress reports are now viewable in FACTS for students who need improvement. As always, check the school calendars, College Counseling Corner, and Graham's weekly sports email for a complete list of updates. Upper School noteworthy dates are below - this is not necessarily an exhaustive list, so please follow email updates and calendars. Senior parents, please note that senior posters are due to Mrs. Aiken by May 1.

Enjoy the weekend!
