Week of April 29

Dear Parents and Students,

News Flash (pictured above)...The SDS Envirothon team, led by Mrs. Webster, has done it again by securing a repeat state title! They walked away as tournament champions and will head to NY this summer to compete in Nationals. Fantastic job, Griffins!

This week, we celebrated Mrs. Aiken and expressed our thanks for the constant and exceptional care she gives. Students brought her sweet notes and enough flowers to create a mini florist shop in the US reception area. We love you, Mrs. Aiken!

AP Art students had their opening at Ridge Gallery this week. The space perfectly showcased the talented students' work! If you have yet to see the work, Mrs. Sam Mitchell will be at Ridge from 1:00 to 4:00 tomorrow (Saturday, April 27). Stop by while you can.

AP Exams begin Monday, May 6. Please encourage your student to check email frequently and stay on top of their studies, upcoming event dates, and deadlines. Ms. Wesneski will soon send an email detailing AP Exam dates and procedures. Below are related key points.

Students taking AP tests -

  • Should arrive by 7:40 for morning exams and by 11:40 for afternoon exams.
  • Must bring non-mechanical #2 pencils, blue/black pens to each exam, and a College Board-approved calculator that is fully charged or has new batteries. Having a replacement set of batteries on hand is also a good idea.
  • Before testing begins, students must turn off and submit cell phones, smart watches, or other smart devices. It's best to leave these items in a safe space outside the testing room.
  • If you receive accommodations and will be testing in a room different from the primary testing room, Ms. Wesneski will email you the night before with specific instructions.
  • If you ARE ILL OR HAVE AN EMERGENCY THAT WILL RESULT IN YOU BEING ABSENT from an exam, please get in touch with Mrs. Aiken ASAP so that the exam room is not waiting for you.
  • All study halls will be in the library for the remainder of the school year.
  • Please be very quiet in Presnell during the testing window. During testing, exams will occur in several rooms throughout the school day.
  • Relaxed dress for exam days. As always, use good judgment.
  • Students taking an exam are exempt from other classes that day, but please communicate with your teachers in advance.

Next week, we have big things happening on campus. On Monday (A Day), we will celebrate Mr. Skeen with his investiture, beginning at 10:00 am. We hope to see you there.

Senior posters are due by Wednesday. You can deliver them to Mrs. Aiken. Friday brings the Junior/Senior breakfast at 7:15 am in the dining commons, and the Senior Parade and Banner Signing festivities begin at 9:00 am. Senior parents and students, please see my email sent earlier this week for details and reach out with any questions.

Enjoy the weekend!

Paige
