News from the Upper School
With the hustle and bustle of Homecoming behind us, students and faculty settled back into a more typical school routine this week. Pictured below, French III students researched the origin of a classic French dish as part of their food unit. They made the dishes at home and brought them to school to share with their classmates. Quiche, coq au vin, éclairs, and ratatouille were some of the food that students sampled. Several teachers and I had the chance to share in this delectable experience. Everything was unbelievably delicious, but my personal favorites were the cheese soufflé and the crème brûlée. Also pictured, Human Anatomy & Physiology students enjoyed a hands-on lesson on blood pressure facilitated by Nurse Jon Green as they studied the cardiovascular system.
Unfortunately, we are experiencing elevated levels of sickness. Please remind your students to use good hygiene practices and keep them home if ill. Communicate absences to attendance@sdsgriffin.org or donlyn.aiken@sdsgriffin.org. For COVID or flu-related illnesses, please also alert Jon Green at jonathan.green@sdsgriffin.org so we can track spread rates and respond accordingly. In addition to communicating when your child is sick, please remember to let us know when they need to sign out or arrive late. Your advanced communication allows us to ensure the safety and whereabouts of students.
Related, please note that SAT prep for this Sunday has been canceled due to illness.
We begin next week with Monday being an E day and Tuesday marking the midway point of quarter 3. On Thursday, a lower school performance occurs in Dent to celebrate the opening of Black History Month. Upper School assembly will be moved to the dining commons to allow for setup.
Please remind your students to do their best to make it to school and classes on time. We have seen an uptick in lateness and tardiness recently.
Check below for a list of notable dates, and use the school calendar for ongoing updates.
All the best for a fantastic weekend!
