News from the Upper School
We are currently preparing for our first week of AP exams and assessments. Ms. Wesneski addressed the student body today during assembly to give reminders about testing, expectations, and schedules. We ask that students taking AP exams follow the guidelines below:
Please be on time. All students taking exams need to arrive at least 20 minutes before exams begin. This means that students taking morning exams need to be in their testing room no later than 7:40 am and afternoon exams no later than 11:40 am. Students who arrive late may not be able to enter the testing space once others have started. If a student will be late to an exam due to illness, traffic, or emergency, please call Stacey Brewer ASAP.
Please arrive prepared. Bring pencils, pens, charged laptops, calculators, and any other necessary items. Students should speak with their teacher if they are unsure of what they need for their AP exam. They are not allowed to leave the testing space to collect items.
Please leave cell phones and smartwatches in lockers. Students cannot use or have access to these items during testing. If a cell phone or smart watch interrupts or interferes with testing students may face a cancellation of their AP scores.
Students who are scheduled for an AP exam are excused from all other classes on that particular day. They may arrive late or leave early, depending on the time of their exam. If your student is in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade they will need parental permission in order to take advantage of the arrival policy (please email attendance@sdsgriffin.org). We will not allow your student to leave campus without your written permission. Please remind your students to sign in and out as they arrive on campus and leave campus.
The AP exam schedule for next week is:

Students will continue to meet in their classes if they are not taking an AP exam until May 15th. Seniors, once they have completed an exam for a particular course, are excused from the rest of the class meetings for that course. For example, AP Human Geography will test on Tuesday of next week. Seniors in AP Human Geography will not need to attend class meetings for that course once they have completed their exam. Seniors with mandatory study halls will continue to attend their study halls and AP classes until May 15th. They will need to be in class and not in the senior lounge or other communal areas.
Final assessments will also begin next week, students should communicate with their teachers about their schedules if they are unsure about assessment dates. Some teachers have broken up assessments into smaller parts and may be spread out over a few days. We are hoping that this change will help with time management, scheduling, and provide time for AP prep.
We will be offering a new Health Sciences course next year and will be sending out an interest form over the weekend. Students will have the opportunity to take a course with Nurse Jon that will pair medical & scientific knowledge with practical applications. We will send out a more thorough course description in the coming weeks.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about exams, AP schedules, or any other end of the year items.
With Gratitude,
Jillian & Amanda
