News from the Upper School

Dear Parents and Students,
Big things have taken place this week. Between Mr. Skeen's Investiture, teams advancing to state playoffs, and senior celebrations, we've lived it up! This time of year, traditions reign supreme. Today, we celebrated the Class of 2024 with the Junior/Senior breakfast, followed by the senior parade and banner signing. Everyone had a good time and emerged unscathed, even though Mrs. Aiken was VERY concerned about the size of the confetti cannons I purchased for the event. It all worked out, as you can see in the pictures above. Admittedly, Jenny Garrity had to break out the backpack vacuum during cleanup. If they decide to make another Ghostbusters, she could land a role!
Thanks to everyone who organized the Junior/Senior breakfast and the senior celebrations! Days like today reveal everything unique and special about our Spartanburg Day School community. An overwhelming feeling of family permeated the morning, and I will miss that so much next year!
The tennis, track, and soccer teams are headed into the state playoffs. We wish them the best as they compete to secure more state titles! (UPDATE: BOYS TENNIS WON STATE! Congrats, Coach Bob and team!!!)
AP Exams begin next week. Please encourage your student to check email frequently and stay on top of their studies, upcoming event dates, and deadlines. Ms. Wesneski recently sent an email detailing AP Exam dates and procedures. Below are related key points.
Students taking AP tests -
- Should arrive by 7:40 for morning exams and by 11:40 for afternoon exams. Please give yourself additional driving time during exam weeks.
- Must bring non-mechanical #2 pencils, blue/black pens to each exam, and a College Board-approved calculator that is fully charged or has new batteries. Having a replacement set of batteries on hand is also a good idea.
- Before testing begins, students must turn off and submit cell phones, smart watches, or other smart devices. It's best to leave these items in a safe space outside the testing room.
- If you receive accommodations and will be testing in a room different from the primary testing room, you will receive an email from Ms. Wesneski the night before with specific instructions.
- If you ARE ILL OR HAVE AN EMERGENCY THAT WILL RESULT IN YOU BEING ABSENT from an exam, please get in touch with Mrs. Aiken ASAP so that the exam room is not waiting for you.
- All study halls will be in the library for the remainder of the school year.
- Please be very quiet in Presnell for the next two weeks. Exams will be taking place in several rooms throughout each entire school day.
Please look for an email from Ann Johnson with information on how you can help out with end-of-year items if you choose.
The senior posters are now hanging in Presnell, ready for you to see if you would like to stop by.
The radar list of dates is getting shorter and shorter as we check things off for the year. Hold onto your hats from now to graduation.
Enjoy the weekend!
